Starting out at the Strahov monastery, we have a panoramic view of the old monastery gardens and an iron tower which is strangely reminiscent - Prague's own "Eiffel Tower”:

At 299 steps and slightly more than 60 metres, it is not nearly as impressive as its French cousin, but it nonetheless is an unmistakeable part of the Prague skyline - and thanks to the fact that it stands on top of the hill, its tip is at almost the same elevation as the Eiffell Tower.

At the foot of the tower is a small wooden pavilion, which houses a mirror labyrinth - an ideal place to come with children tired of museum visits. At nearby Stefanik observatory, amateur astronomers have come to study the moon and the stars since 1930. It is open to the public on every evening (except Monday) from 7 to 9pm, and on weekends 10-noon, 2-6pm and 7-9pm. 

Continue walking from the observatory and you will find the Hunger Wall (Hladova zed) - 1200 metres of fortification erected by Emperor Charles IV as a make-work measure for poor workers.

All these monuments are also accessible by funicular from Ujezd street, opened in 1891.
