Discovering Nerudova Street

Nerudova Street leads up to Prague Castle from Lesser Town Square (Malostranské náměstí)

Today's name of the street is in honor of nineteenth-century author Jan Neruda, best known for his collection of short stories "Tales of the Little Quarter".
You cannot escape Mozart in Prague, especially on this street, which looks much the same as when he last visited. In September 1787, he danced at the Bretfeld Palace on the corner of Janský Vršek street.
At number 16, you will discover a home with a golden cup above the doorway. Next to this house is is the formery house of the architect Jean-Blaise Santini, who in 1714 designed the Morzin Palace in Nerudova Street.
Today, the Morzin Palace is the Romanian embassy, but we can still admire the beautiful facade. Further up is the Thun-Hohenstein Palace (today the Italian embassy). It was completed in 1725 for the Count Kolowrat.
