Kroměříž

The city of Kroměříž presents flamboyant baroque architecture with audacious red and blue coloured façades, doors made of ancient wood, and long white archways leading to terraces and romantic pools. The town is 272 kilometres (three hours by car) from Prague.

At the Arcibiskupský palác (Archbishop's Palace), visitors can admire fully furnished rooms with rococo frescoes which are among the most magnificient in Europe. In these rooms, Miloš Forman shot several scenes for his film Amadeus. The castle has a library, paintings gallery and a musical section where visitors will find precious manuscripts by famous composers such as Haydn, Stamic and Mozart. There also is a coin collection.

The Palace Gardens are remarkable for their artificial pools and statues inspired by ancient mythology. They were first constructed in the Middle Ages and were redesigned in the British Romantic style during the 19th century.
