Mikulov may be small (less than 8,000 inhabitants) but it has all the charm you would expect from Moravia. Historic sights include Mikulov Castle and the Piarist College.

Of special interest is the town's Jewish quarter - before WWII, Mikulov was an important Jewish community. The few buildings still standing still attest to the historical Jewish presence. The Old Synagogue has been converted into a concert and exhibition hall, but still tells the story of Mikulov’s Jewish community. It is open May-September, Tuesday-Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. The Jewish graveyard was foundein in the 15th century, and is one of the oldest graveyards in the country. Entry is free.

Mikulov's Regional Museum is housed in the local castle, which was partially destroyed by the German army in 1945. It was converted into a museum after the war. Visitors can explore the museum's archaeological collections, read about the region’s wine tradition and admire a giant cask constructed in 1643 and now housed in the museum’s cellar. It holds 1014 hectaliters.
