Prague - Hotel Intercontinental by night (photo: CzechTourism)

Although travelling to Prague is cheap and easy, the most difficult part of your visit may be finding accommodation. The Czech capital offers all kinds of choices, from hostels and rooms to luxury hotels. If you prefer adventure, there are several campsites in the suburbs or on the edge of town, but if you want discover Prague’s charm by night you’ll easily find hotels offering the highest standard of comfort. The prices of quality restaurants are often very attractive, but this does not apply for accommodation, where you will find the same prices as in tourist destinations in Western Europe. Some inexpensive hotels located on the outskirts of Prague claim to be “15 minutes from the center by public transport,” but this excludes the walk to the bus/metro, and it can get quite expensive if you miss the last metro at midnight and you have to take a taxi. Another option is to rent a flat, especially if you come with the family. Prices are more affordable than in hotels, although you will have fewer services.

Prague has made a lot of progress in increasing the number of beds for tourists, but you may still encounter a shortage, especially during high season or if a conference is in town. Make sure to prepare your journey in advance and to reserve your accommodation. If you don’t have the time to look for somewhere to stay, you can always contact an agency to make your reservations for you. Such agencies can also help with flight tickets.

The global standards of three-star, four-star and five-star hotels apply to the Czech Republic as well, though with few differences. For instance, the five-star label refers to hotels that have it all (a pool, parking…), but some of the nicest hotels in Prague are located in historically protected buildings and thus cannot offer modern amenities such as a pool or parking garage.
