Mail and communication in the Czech Republic

Czech Mail (photo: Archives)

Mail and communication:

To phone from abroad dial the international dialling prefix (usually 00, in the United States 011) followed by the Czech Republic's country code (420) and the local phone number. A local call from a phone booth costs CZK 4. You can purchase international calling cards (in denominations of CZK 200-300) at the post office or at almost any news vendor ("Tabak" or "Trafika").

VOIP (Voice over IP) software programmes such as Skype® and MSN are good ways for those staying in Czech Republic to decrease their international telephone bills.

Post offices: For a letter or postcard, stamps cost: CZK 10 (domestic), CZK 12 (Europe) and CZK 17(North America—USA and Canada). Most post offices are open Mon-Fri 8am to 6pm.

Prague's main post office at Jindřišská 14 is open every day, practically non-stop (2am to midnight).
