Shopping in Prague: Shopping Malls

Over the past 10 years, twelve new shopping centers have opened in Prague, half of them in the past four years alone. These palaces of shopping are open late in evening every day of the week, and offer a pleasant environment where the name of the game is: enjoy yourself.

The most noticeable change since the fall of communism is the rise of shopping centers

One of the most notable changes since the end of communism in 1989 is the appearance of a multitude of shopping malls, many of which would put shipping centers in “the West” to shame.Palladium

One of the newest in Prague, the Palladium offers more than 13,500 square meters of shopping in the city center. Located in a historic building right at the Náměstí Republiky subway stop (the building was originally a convent, then a barracks), you will find nearly 200 shops here. All the famous brands are represented (Marks and Spencer, Promod, Etam, Sephora…). The food court is particularly pleasant and offers a choice from some thirty restaurants.

Chodov

Located on line C of the Prague subway a short ride from the city center, with 210 stores this is Prague’s largest shopping mall. It boasts all the major international brands and shopper can easily spend several hours at Chodov without getting bored. In addition, for a modest fee, the shopping mall offers a fantastic nursery (with electric cars, electronic games…), where you will not regret leaving your children while doing your shopping in peace. In fact, you might just find that your kids will want to come back again and again! And for adults, there are fitness clubs and restaurants, mainly offering fast food.

Nový Smíchov

This shopping mall located in the heart of the Smichov district at the Anděl subway stop will offer you all you need and much more. There is a hypermarket and 150 stores. On the top floor, you will find a fitness club and a multiplex cinema. Although easily accessible by public transport, it also offer 3 hours of free parking in its underground parking garage. A nursery on the first floor will look after children aged 3 to 12 years; it is open until 9 p.m., allowing you to do all your shopping in peace.

Metropole

Located on very edge of Prague on the highway towards Pilsen but nevertheless easily accessible by car or subway, the Metropole is located amidst the Czech Republic’s largest retail park, with IKEA and two hypermarkets nearby. With 140 shops, a multiplex, laser tag, a fitness club, and a bowling alley, it is incontestably one of the most pleasant shopping malls on Prague’s periphery. Very modern and spacious, it is an ideal place for shopping.

Letňany

The largest shopping mall in the Czech Republic by surface area, Letňany offers 200 shops, a multiplex, a hypermarket, and a swimming pool and ice skating rink. This is the family shopping mall par excellence! Letňany is located on the highway towards Teplice, or take the subway to Letňany and then a bus for just a few stops.

Černý Most

At Černý Most, you will find 80 shops, a swimming pool, and a supermarket. This is the first shopping mall to have opened in Prague and it shows its age! Nevertheless, some renovation work is planned, which should soon return it to its glory days and make it the largest in the Czech Republic. There is an IKEA nearby as well.
