Near Old Town Square and the Jewish Quarter of Josefov, Vězeňská Street will take you to a little square where you can discover the Hastal Quarter, home to a church dedicated to this saint (St. Castulus in English). Nearby is the Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia - now home to an excellent museum of medieval art. Part of the quarter's charm comes from the fact that - unlike Josefov, which was entirely rebuilt during urban renweal efforts in the nineteenth century - here you still find older, smaller buildings. Before visiting the Convent of St. Agnes, have a look inside the Church of Sts. Simon and Jude. Its organ dates back to 1724, and both Mozart and Haydn played on it The convent itself was founded in the 13th century by Agnes, the daughter of King Premysl Otakar. Today, it houses an exposition of art from the Middle Ages to the early Renaissance. Afterwards, don't forget to have a peek at the chapel of St. Mary Magdalene on Řásnovka Street. Don’t be surprised that the building is lower than ground level. Religious buildings were often constructed like this as a sign of humility.
