The Christmas Mass is the most popular and most frequently performed Christmas music in the country. It was composed by Jakub Jan Ryba (1765-1815), a country teacher and composer. Ryba never received much acclaim during his life, however, in fact committing suicide because of recurring financial problems and the hostility of his superiors.

The National Theatre is giving four performances of the Christmas Mass, on each advent Sunday. Also on the program is "Viva Vejvanovský!", a selection from the work of the Czech composer Pavel Josef Vejvanovský.

The concert features the Pontes Czech Choir and members of the National Theatre Orchestra, under the direction of Oldřich Vlček.

If you can't make the concert at the National Theatre, many other venues are offering the mass as well. For instance, St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle is presenting the "Rybovka" on 20 December at 7pm.
