The concert of Paco de Lucía with a seven-member band on 2nd November in the Congress Centre represents a climax of 10 years of Guitar Across Styles. Paco de Lucía makes complete – together with Tomatito and Vicente Amigo – the trio of the most famous flamenco guitarists who have had been featured in the festival history. Lucía´s music blends traditional flamenco with Brazilian rhytms, jazz and classical music. An author who has got 25 albums on his account and has received hundreds of awards comments on his combination of styles: “Despite numerous inspirations, my music has never lost its original roots, my own roots. I do my best to hold one hand on the tradition and to search and explore other areas by my other hand. I am looking for new things to enrich flamenco.“
Paco de Lucía who turned 60 this year recorded his latest album Cositas Buenas in 2004.
Another world´s top musician is Tommy Emmanuel who took his audience with him last year in Palace Akropolis in Prague. Thanks to his guitar technique the phenomenal musician is a unique figure on the world guitar stage: he nonchalantly improvizes between blues, jazz and country. Emmanuel will appear on 27th November in the Lucerna Great Hall. “After the last year successful concert of Tommy Emmanuel in Prague we decided to invite him again for this year. We have not experienced such a great response from audience to any other artist, even several months after the concert. Up to the present day we still keep receiving thankful emails, “ says Vladana Rýdlová of co-organizing agency Taktika Muzika.Like in previous years, the organizers come up with novelties. Among them the opening night called “Mama Africa“ with musicians from Africa (Congo and Gambia) performing for the first time their local music both in its crude form and after various modifications. The Guitar Across Styles festival allows also for less famous names of other excellent artists (Jacques Stotzem, Joel Xavier, Peter Finger and others). Yet another interesting spectacle should be also the performance of art school students for whom the festival may be a take-off platform for their future musical career.
