Alternativa 2011 Music Festival
November 11, 2011 - The 19th annual festival presents alternative music, experimental acts and cutting edge bands from around the world, November 19-26 at the HooDoo Music Club, the UniJazz reading room, and the Kaštan club in Prague.
Germany has always been a leading force in experimental music, and as in the past, the festival lineup features plenty of acts from that country - most notably the legendary Frank-Martin Strauß (better known as FM Einheit). The co-founder of Einstürzende Neubauten and longtime KMFDM collaborator will be appearing with krautrock pioneer Hans Joachim Irmler.
Also make sure to check out the folk-influenced experimental rock band Akron Family (USA), who will be playing at the Hoodoo Club November 23 with Germany's Les Hommes Sauvages. Notably, both bands have ties to legendary American post-punk band Swans. Also on the bill are Hitman's Hell (Germany/USA) and US/Canadian combo Pink Mountaintops.
For peek under the lid of the Czech alternative scene, head to the Kaštan on the festival's opening night, November 19, when the "malá alternative" ("little alternative") evening showcases various acts you probably have never heard of but may just come away being impressed by. Go ahead, give it a shot.
Tickets are on sale at Ticketpro, Ticketportal, Rekomando, and the Unijazz Reading Room. The full festival program is available at Alternativa-festival.cz.
