September 2009 - The autumn season brings the sounds of classical music festivals to Prague. Missing this year is the traditional Prague Autumn festival, which failed to get a sponsor, but other options await.

Radio Autumn: Czech Radio hosts this festival of European radio symphonies, featuring radio orchestras from Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

The festival starts on September 11 with Germany's MDR Symphony Orchestra performing works by Dvořák, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn. On September 19, the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra presents Novák, Martinů, and Tschaikovsky, on September 22, the Magyar Radio Symphony Orchestra will fill the Rudolfinum hall with the sounds of Kodály, Liszt, and Mahler.

On September 27, the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic presents Händel, Bach, and Mozart, and the festival closes on September 30, with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra's rendition of Shostakovich and Dvořák.

All performances are at the Rudolfinum's Dvořák Hall.

14th International Organ Festival: The festival is held under the auspices of Mr. Pavel Bém, the Mayor of the City of Prague, and F. Marco Tasca, the Minister General of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. For the first time in the history of the festival, concertgoers will be able to watch the organist on a screen placed in the front part of the basilica.

Performances include works by Mendelssohn, Brahms, Liszt, Bach, and by Czech composer Petr Eben (1929-2007), to whom the festival is dedicated.
