Barack Obama to meet with Russian president Dmitry Medvedev in Prague, April 8
March 30, 2010 -On April 8, US president Barack Obama and Russian president Dmitry Medvedev will meet in Prague to sign a historic accord.
Less than a year after his first visit to Prague, when he gave a speech calling for a world without nuclear weapons, US president Barack Obama is returning to the Czech capital to sign a historic agreement with his Russian counterpart.
The agreement would limit the number of nuclear warheads held by the world's two superpowers.
“This historic agreement is a step towards increasing the two countries' security and reaffirms American and Russian commitment to nuclear security and global non-proliferation”, the White House stated. Prague was chosen as the place for signing the agreement as a gesture to the Czechs following Obama's decision to abandon plans for the installation of an anti-missile radar base in the Czech Republic, a project opposed by the Czech public but supported on the political level.
