Beer – Czechs' center of gravity
July 14, 2010 - Czechs are well known for their sense of humor, in particular their ability to make fun of themselves. The latest video to make the humor rounds is an internal video made by the employees of the famed Pilsen Prazdroj brewery, which also reminds us that Czechs are some of the biggest beer drinkers in the world.
The “beer belly” is an international phenomenon, but many Czech men are truly well padded around the midriff. Five years a go, the employees of the Pilsen Prazdroj brewer made a little video for their foreign colleagues at Prazdroj’s parent company.
In four minutes, the video introduces us to the Czech Republic, Prague, and the country’s great men – all seen through the lens of a nation of beer-drinkers. Among other things, the video tells us the Czechs separated from the Slovaks because they didn’t drink enough beer. Or that beer has the opposite effect on women: although it gives men beer bellies, it is the reason for the country’s large number of supermodels.
