Bobby McFerrin is one of the most remarkable protagonists of the contemporary music scene. His voice knows few boundaries, defying all style brackets. As a 10-time Grammy Award winner, he combines jazz, pop, folk and classical music enriched by a wide variety of elements drawn from world music, with “ingredients” that are thoroughly his own. In the famous song Don’t Worry, Be Happy! he plays no musical instrument, conjuring up a wide spectrum of parts, rhythms, bass lines and percussion sounds by the sheer force of his voice and body. Bobby McFerrin’s career has encompassed, apart from one-man shows, involvement in jazz sessions, and composing,

along with conducting prestigious ensembles and collaborations with the likes of Chick Corea, Yo-Yo Ma, Herbie Hancock and others.

“Mr. McFerrin is a musical phenomenon (…), he uses his extraordinary vocal abilities to become a kind of one-man band…[His] ground-zero signature is pure enthusiasm. No matter what kind of music he happens to be performing or witnessing, he throws himself into it totally, his infectious smile challenging the audience to enjoy the performance as much as he does. Mozart or Gershwin, it doesn’t matter. Simply listen and be moved; get down with it.”

(The New York Times)

“Bobby McFerrin is the kind of musician that walks onstage and just creates, with pure exploration from his life. It’s something that immediately gets right to the point and right to people’s hearts.”

(Herbie Hancock)
