December 2008 - Most Czech towns put on a great show on New Year’s Eve, and this is especially true in Prague. New Year's Eve is mostly spent with friends at a restaurant or just in the streets of the town; the older generation prefers to stay at home. People usually eat lentils as a part of their New Year lunch in order (as a superstition says) to have lots of money in the upcoming year! But you might eat much more! Our list of Prague's restaurants goes from the most expensive to the most affordable.

You can take part in New Year’s Eve celebrations in the magnificent surroundings of the State Opera. Immediately after the curtain falls on Strauss’s opera ‘Die Fledermaus’, the stage is turned into a dance floor with a swing orchestra to help you dance the night away. On Old Town Square, the New Year’s Eve show starts in the afternoon and reaches a climax with a firework display to welcome in 2009. However, the capital holds a truly spectacular fireworks show on the first day of the new year. You can also spend a nice evening at a restaurant.
