Coming Soon: The 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival
June 1, 2010 -The most important international film festival in Central Europe opens next month in the Czech Republci. Every year, the festival presents more than 200 movies from aroudn the world. This year's festival takes place July 2 to 10.
KVIFF spot feturing Miloš Forman
Renowend Polish playwright and documentary filmmaker Pawel Sala will present his first feature-length film, Mother Teresa of Cats. Also in competition are Olivier Coussemacq's Sweet Evil, and Kooky, a puppet adventure for children and adults directed by Jan Svěrák, the director of the Oscar-winning Kolya.
Films are still being selected, but the list of categories should be enough to entice film fans out to this famed spa town. In addition to documentary films, categories include "East of the West," "Czech Film 2009-2010," and "2010: A Musical Odyssey" to name a few. In "Focus on Belgian" film, moviegoers will be treated to Felix Van Groeningen's The Misfortunates, which represented Belgium at the Oscars.
This year, director Juraj Herz will receive the festival's crystal globe for lifetime achievement. During his career, Herz has made more than 25 feature films, several of which have won awards at many festivals.
The KVIFF also attracts many stars each year. Recent guests have included Sean Connery, Robert De Niro, Keira Knightley, and Elijah Wood. As in every year, audiences can look forward to new trailers featuring one of the stars invited. After Miloš Forman, Andy Garcia and Harvey Keitel, who will be this year's special guest?
