Damien Mitchell and his “famous people”

February 25, 2010 - The Chemistry Gallery presents only until the 28th of February (this Sunday), the work of a young and eccentric Australian artist, Daniel Mitchell. A way to discover and support a talent and begin with a bit of “madness” the last weekend of the month. Article by Mattia Mantellato.

Obama by Damien Mitchell

Damien Mitchell is a young Australian artist who moved to Prague with his sister in search of creativity. He never attended any art academy and considers himself a street artist. Personally I found him very pleasant and gifted with extraordinary imagination.

Damien represents known personalities in an incomparable and humorous way. Obama, Queen Elizabeth, Stalin, Churchill, Roosevelt, and even Christ are depicted, through the stencil technique, in a "different" and unexceptionable way. A cry of protest? Or simply a way to escape and laugh at the austerity of certain personalities from the world of today and yesterday?

The Chemistry Gallery is located in the district of Vinohrady, precisely at U Kanalky n.4 (Prague 2). On Thursday and Friday it will be open from 13.00 to 21.00 while on Saturday and Sunday from 12.00 to 18.00. For more information on the gallery and upcoming events visit www.thechemistry.cz.
