64th Prague Spring International Music Festival: May 12 to June 3

April 25 - As the Czech saying goes,“Co Čech, to muzikant”, i.e. “all Czechs are musicians.” This year, the Prague Spring festival commemorates composer Bohuslav Martinů with concerts guaranteed to be exceptional (for example, a May 15 performance by the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic at the Municipal House or the May 28 Prague Philharmonic peformance at the Rudolfinum). Come and discover what makes this international festival of music so special, and reserve your tickets without delay.


The festival’s highlights include a concert by of the one of today’s top tenors, Juan Diego Flórez (May 15) and the queen of the violin, Anne-Sophie Mutter (June 1). The Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra will open the festival with the traditional performance of Bedřich Smetana "My Country", directed by Neeme Järvi.

Audiences can also see the Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (May 14), the Orchestre Philharmoniqu du Luxembourg (May 21), the Norddeutscher Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Hamburg (May 27) and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra (May 31).

The list of the excellent soloists includes Bernarda Fink, Susan Graham, Dagmar Pecková, Thomas Hampson, violonists Shlomo Mintz and Leonidas Kavakos, cellist Steven Isserlis, legendary violist Jordi Savall and pianists Nikolaj Luganskij and Ivan Moravec. Travelling from the United States are the Dave Holland jazz quintet.

Also featured on the programme are the Czech premiere of the Lord of the Rings Symphony (May 28) by American composer Howard Shore, based on the music from the popular series of movies.
