Easter in the Czech Republic: folk customs, hotels, shopping
March 30, 2010 - Easter in the Czech Republic is the perfect opporunity for discovering the traditions of this ancient festival.

Hand-painted Easter eggs are a Czech tradition
Just as Prague offers wonderful Christmas markets, the city and its many neighborhoods also offer great Easter markets as well - the perfect occasion for buying traditional Easter objects such as exquisitely decorated eggs or willow rods festooned with ribbons, traditionally used by young men to pursue and whip young girls on Easter Monday.
If this habit strikes you as a little too violent (the whipping is only playful, really), why not opt for some beautiful pottery instead? The largest Easter markets are traditionally on the Old Town Square and Wenceslaus Square. They are open from 9am to 7pm; until 8pm on the weekends.
In the afternoon, you can visit egg-decorating workshops or see children's entertainment. Other Prague districts offer Easter markets as well - you will find markets in the pedestrian precinct of Anděl, or in Prague 8 and 9.
Easter is also Easter mass and concerts, in particular at the Týn Cathedral on Old Town Squre or St. Vitus Cathedral at Prague Castle.
Some hotels are offering Easter weekend specials. The prices are for two people for three nights, from Friday to Monday!
