January 19, 2010 - The Prague Playhouse starts the new year with several productions of Shepard's classic play, starting January 21

The Prague Playhouse started in 2003 with a production of short pieces by well known American playwrights. After a period of dormancy, the company came to life again with a series of performances of 10 minute plays, and in 2006, it conceived the Playwriting Contest, which awards a cash prize to a 30-minute play written by a playwright who live or have lived in Prague.

Set in Southern California, TRUE WEST brings its glaring light to bear on the relationship between two brothers, the meaning of success and failure, raw nature and suburban creep. Sam Shepard is known for gritty American drama and comedy, featuring characters that are more at home on a ranch than in an office. TRUE WEST was written in 1980 and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play in 2000.

Performances: January 21, 22, 23, 27, 28 & 29 and February 3, 4 & 5 all at 7:30pm, at Divadlo Inspirace, Malostranske namesti 13, Prague 1.
