Febiofest 2009

March 2009 - Prague’s largest film festival features hundreds of films, as well as personal appearances by Wim Wenders, Thomas Vinterberg, and Mike Leigh, among others.

Now in its sixteenth year, Febiofest brings the best of world cinema to Prague. The festival’s focus is on feature films, always divided into various sections. This year, for instance, there are “Panorama of World Film,” British-American, Asian, and Latin American cinema, and a section of experimental films called “Cinema of Extremes.”

The festival’s special guests will be here to present their latest films. Win Wenders will introduce "Palermo Shooting," and Mike Leigh is accompanying his latest work, "Happy-Go-Lucky."

Most films are screened with English subtitles – this information is usually given in the festival program. Best of all, admission to individual films is a mere CZK 79.

A by now traditional festival feature is the admission-free projection of movies outside of regular cinemas. The first such event took place at Prague’s main train station; this year’s venue is the Černý Most shopping center, which will host a series of films on the fitting theme of “The World of Shops.”

After taking Prague by storm, a smaller version of Febiofest moves on to Brno, Olomouc, Ostrava, Pardubice, Liberec, Hradec Králové, České Budějovice, Jihlava and Slovakia.

The full festival program can be found at www.febiofest.cz/en.
