Head for the hills. Now is the perfect time for skiing in the Czech Republic.
January 9, 2011 -Are you getting bored of Prague? Looking for a change of scenery, preferably something less urban? No problem… Head for the hills - the Czech mountains, that is. Snow has finally come, and the country's ski paradise awaits.
Over the past few days, the snow has not stopped falling in the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše). Last Saturday, Spindlerův Mlýn recorded 10,000 visitors who came to take advantage of the fresh powder – this season's record! Some 60 to 70 cm of snow have fallen since Wednesday, with a record 150cm at Mísečky-Medvědín.
May we recommend our two favorite ski resorts? Harrachov and Pec pod Sněžkou in the Giant Mountains are definitely worth checking out.
Another recommendation: The Pomi ski school in Harrachov offers discounts of 20% on lessons or ski rental for guests who stay in its Pomi Hotel.
There's plenty of snow in the Eagle Mountains (Orlické hory) as well: 30 to 70cm of powder at Deštná and Říčky. Cross-country skiers will find 70cm of snow on the peaks.
