On the evening of 6 August the State Opera in Prague transports us to 1666, for that is the day on which Moliere’s comedy Le Médecin malgré lui was premiered in Paris.

The ensemble La Fabrique a théâtre and director Jean-Denis Monory strive to recreate the atmosphere of the baroque stage. French baroque theatre is not only Moliere’s poetic French language, not only action full of reversals and intrigues, but also studied gesture and choreography, candlelight on stage, colourful costumes and reverberating music.

The result is rich and pure at the same time, the theatrical form cleared of the deposits of the years, full of suggestive power.
