November 28, 2011 - Discover the Czech Republic through food with this unique event. The preview tastings for the Grand Restaurant festival are drawing near: The festival runs from January 15 to February 15, 2012 in 20 cities throughout the country. Visitors can taste incredible meals at special prices, all at restaurants that have been honored in the Czech equivalent to the Michelin Guide, the Maurer Selection.
Roast eel with beetroot ravioli, a vinaigrette made of hazelnut oil, beef in a morchella mushroom sauce, celeriac and mashed potatoes, venison in a creamy sauce, Karlovy Vary dumplings, pumpkin seeds and fresh bilberries… This is only a brief summary of the kinds of dishes you can expect at Grand Restaurant.
Twelve regions of the Czech Republic will be represented at the festival: Prague, Central Bohemia, Southern Bohemia, Pilsen, Karlovy Vary, Liberec, Pardubice, Vysočina, South Moravia, Olomouc, Moravia-Silesia and Zlín. The festival's aim is to promote Czech cuisine and traditional recipes using local and seasonal products. During the festival, participating chefs will be preparing three dishes: a homemade meal like mother used to make, a chef's specialty and a regional "Czech Specials" plate.
The Grand Restaurant festival is open to all who are interested in good cuisine and the best restaurants. Some of this year's highlights include guided bus tours of Prague's culinary scene. Visitors can choose from four different routes, with each route stopping at three restaurants, where participants will sample six plates and talk to some of the city's leading chefs. Another bus will even cross the country, traveling from Prague to Pilsen.
To participate in the Grand Restaurant festival, you must reserve your restaurant of choice and select the day and hour for your tasting. Tickets will be on sale starting December 1, 2011 on the festival's website. The price of tastings ranges from CZK 200 to 600.
