The Prague Food Festival: a tasty experience for everyone

August 2007 - Imagine these delicious delicacies: young cockerel in wine sauce, mussels, sushi; imagine to yourself the scene: idyllic parkland with views of the River Vltava and Charles Bridge. No, this is not one of Prague’s luxury restaurants but the first Prague Food Festival. Come and try delicacies created by 30 top chefs from the Czech Republic from 7th to 9th September at the Kampa Museum in the Kampa Island park.

The Prague Food Festival (www.praguefoodfestival.com) will take place along the lines of similar events around the world. It is a celebration of gastronomy, the art of the master chef and food and drink producers, as well as of Prague and the work of Czech architects, artists and musicians. Over the three days the cooks will present specialities from Czech, Thai, French, Japanese and Mediterranean cuisines. As far as drinks are concerned, you can choose from our world famous Czech beers, wines and sparkling

wines. And there’s no risk that this treat for the taste buds will break the bank: tickets cost 350Kč (12.5 euros) and include food and drink worth 250Kč (9 euros).

A special programme of cultural events will accompany these gastronomic delights. The festival organisers have come up with a novel idea; the music played will always be in tune with the different restaurants on site (for instance, you can listen to Brazilian rhythms by Tam-Tam Batucada). Visitors can also look forward to a curious fashion show. Czech designers Liběna Rochová and Eva Janoušková have found special models especially for the event. The interior of the Kampa Museum will be an impressive sight (www.museumkampa.cz), and will be hosting an exhibition of prints by Andy Warhol at the time.

Top chefs from restaurants that came in the first 100 eateries in a pole held by GRAND RESTAURANT 2007 have been charged with preparing the feast. You can find a list of those taking part at www.praguefoodfestival.com/festivalove-restaurace.php
