The Year of Chopin in the Czech Republic
February 2, 2010 - Although Chopin was of French-Polish origin, the Czech Republic will join the celebration of bicentennial of the famous composer's birth. And what better occasion to point out that his piano teacher was a Czech?

One great moment of this Year of Chopin is the concert on February 24, the famous composer's presumed birth date.
On this occasion, Argentinian conductor Daniel Barenboim will lead a piano recital at the Rudolfinum, the first visit to Prague by this great name of classical music. With his Divan Orchestra, Daniel Barenboim is an enthusiastic promoter of Israeli-Palestinian understanding through music.
And from August 12 to 21, the spa town of Mariánské lázně (Marienbad) will sway to the sounds of Chopin for the 51st edition of the Chopin Festival.
