What’s going on outside of Prague
April 2009 - Not all the action happens in the capital. Here are some tips for events taking place in other Czech towns.

Wines and more beckon to Valtice, Moravia (photo: CzechTourism)
Pilsen Liberation Festival (May 2-6) – Unlike the rest of the country, Pilsen and western Bohemia were liberated by American, not Soviet forces – a fact long ignored during 40 years of communism. Since 1989, locals have been again able to properly show their gratitude.
Valtice Wine Market (May 8 and 9) – The largest and most prestigious competitive display of wines in the Czech Republic, with international participation of exhibitors, folklore, gastronomy and accompanying events, is the perfect excuse to make the trip to Valtice, site of one of the most beautiful castles in the Czech Republic. The festival will be held at the Valtice castles‘s riding school.
Navigation season opens on the Bata Canal (May 1) – As of May 1, the Bata Canal is open to navigation. Time to bring your kayak, canoe, inflatable raft – or rent one at one of the canal’s many boat rental places. For more information, visit the Bata Canal website.
Magic Krumlov (April 30 and May 1) – The tourist season in Český Krumlov opens with the Magic Krumlov festival featuring children’s puppet theatre, a Krumlov trade fair, a maypole, a concert by local bands, a Museum Day and more. Admission to most events is free. More information at the Magic Krumlov website.
