Austerlitz - Slavkov u Brna

Some 20 kilometers from Brno and 2.5 hours from Prague lies the site of one of Europe's largest battles, Austerlitz. Here, Napoleon Bonaparte destroyed the combined forces of the Austrian and Russian armies.
On the first weekend of December, history enthusiasts reenact the battle in historical costume with thousand of participants. The open-air show - often in snow - starts around 1 pm and lasts 2 hours. Make sure to wear warm clothes.
Zamek Slavkov - Austerlitz Castle: Open in April from 9 am to 4 pm, in May, June and from September to November from 9 am to 6 pm; in July and August from 9 am to 6 pm. Closed Mondays except in July and August. It was here that Napoleon signed the armistice and slept after the battle. In mid-August, Napoleon Days celebrate the emperor’s birth with parades in historical costume.
Pamatnik Mohyla miru - Peace memorial: This mound was erected in order to honor the men who fell at Austerlitz. There are exhibitions on the French Revolution, the Napoleonic wars and, of course, on the Battle of Austerlitz itself. Also on display is the peace treaty signed between France and Austria in 1801.
