Loket nad Ohří

The town of Loket, located some 140 km west of Prague near Karlovy Vary, is a true jewel. The old town rises sharply on a cliff overlooking the Ohře (Eger) River.
Loket's main attraction is Loket Castle (open daily from 9am to 5pm - October to March 9am to 4pm).
The castle was founded by the Bohemian kings at the beginning of the 13th century and was strategically located near the country's borders. The castle, which boasts unique Romanesque architectural elements, is open to the public, including the deep subterranean dungeons once used as a prison.
The old town
The tiny old town, situated on the slopes surrounding the castle, is a beautiful colletion of renovated homes. The The White Horse Inn (Hostinec Bílý kůň) once hosted the famous writer Goethe when he visited the city.
